The installation method for slip-on flanges differs significantly from that of weld-neck flanges. The pipe is inserted directly into the flange bore and secured via fillet welds on both the front and back faces; since no end-beveling is required, on-site welding effort is substantially reduced. Field personnel often favor this product because assembly is straightforward, welder skill requirements are lower, and installation speed is faster. However, it is important to acknowledge the limitations: the fillet weld configuration does not allow for complete radiographic testing (RT) to detect internal weld defects, and stress concentration tends to occur at the weld bead. Consequently, they are not recommended for pipelines carrying high-risk media-such as those involving high-temperature thermal cycling, highly toxic substances, or flammable and explosive materials.

The production process for slip-on flanges is well-established: steel plate cutting or forging blank preparation → machining of the inner bore and sealing face → bolt hole drilling → surface treatment. Compared to weld-neck flanges, this process eliminates the long-neck forging and beveling stages, resulting in a shorter production cycle-a key factor contributing to their cost advantage.

Raw material verification: Each batch of steel comes with a material certificate, and critical orders undergo spectral analysis to confirm chemical composition;
Dimensional accuracy: Key dimensions-such as the bolt hole circle diameter, hole diameter, and sealing face roughness-undergo either 100% inspection or random sampling;
Visual quality: Sealing faces must be free from scratches, pits, cracks, and similar defects; while such defects might not cause immediate leakage in low-pressure applications, they can significantly shorten gasket lifespan;
Pressure testing: Hydrostatic or pneumatic leak tests can be performed upon customer request.
Documentation provided upon shipment includes the Material Test Certificate (MTC), dimensional inspection report, packing list, and commercial invoice; we also support third-party inspections by agencies such as SGS or BV.
Many procurement clients compare slip-on flanges with weld-neck flanges when deciding which to select. In terms of purchase price alone, slip-on flanges offer a distinct advantage; combined with lower on-site installation costs, they allow for significant budget savings in standard low-pressure projects. However, they have limited capacity to withstand pressure and temperature fluctuations and offer weaker vibration resistance than weld-neck flanges. For operating conditions involving frequent thermal expansion and contraction, highly corrosive media, or significant pressure fluctuations, we generally recommend upgrading to weld-neck flanges to mitigate the risk of future leakage. When selecting products, the specific operating conditions of the project are the primary consideration; one should not focus solely on the unit price.
