LSAW pipes do not use steel strip coiling; instead, they directly use a whole medium-thick steel plate as raw material, gradually pressing it into a pipe blank through a mature JCOE forming process. This results in regular seams, high pipe roundness, and uniform wall thickness. After forming, it is formed in one go using internal and external double-sided submerged arc welding, which is the key to its quality far exceeding that of ordinary single-sided welded pipes. The submerged arc welding flux covers the weld seam throughout the process, effectively isolating air, resulting in a dense weld seam with an extremely low defect rate and very stable overall mechanical properties.
The practical engineering advantages brought by double-sided welding are very obvious. Single-sided welded pipes are prone to problems such as uneven penetration depth, excessive internal weld reinforcement, and potential internal corrosion. Double-sided submerged arc welding (LSAW) allows for simultaneous formation of internal and external welds, resulting in uniform penetration and a smooth, full weld bead.
