The production of spiral steel pipe is a highly automated and precise continuous process, and its quality directly depends on strict control over the entire process:
Raw material preparation and pretreatment: High-quality spiral steel pipe relies on qualified base materials. Upon arrival at the factory, the steel strip undergoes rigorous appearance and physical and chemical property inspections. Before forming, the coiling stress of the steel strip is eliminated using an uncoiler and leveler, and precision milling is performed using a disc shear to ensure smooth, burr-free edges, laying the foundation for subsequent high-quality welding.
Spiral forming and precision control: The forming process is the core of manufacturing. A flat steel strip is fed into a forming machine, where, constrained by multiple rollers, it is gradually rolled into a cylindrical shape at a set helix angle (typically 12°~22°). Modern production lines are usually equipped with photoelectric alignment systems that monitor and automatically correct deviations in real time, ensuring tight seam penetration and controlling the ovality of the finished product to within 1% of the nominal diameter.
Double-sided submerged arc welding: After the pipe blanks are joined, submerged arc welding equipment on both the inner and outer sides works synchronously. By precisely controlling the welding current, voltage, and speed, full penetration of the weld is ensured, free from defects such as porosity and slag inclusions. For high-strength pipeline steel, post-weld hydrogen removal treatment is also required to prevent cold cracking.
Comprehensive non-destructive testing: To ensure safe service, each steel pipe must undergo rigorous inspection. Ultrasonic testing (UT) and X-ray testing (RT) are typically used to inspect the internal quality of the weld, supplemented by magnetic particle testing (MT) to check for surface cracks. Furthermore, a hydrostatic test is the final checkpoint to verify the overall pressure-bearing capacity and sealing performance of the steel pipe.
Corrosion Protection and Post-treatment: Depending on the application environment, steel pipes undergo external 3PE anti-corrosion treatment, fusion-bonded epoxy powder (FBE) coating, or internal cement mortar treatment before leaving the factory to significantly improve corrosion resistance and extend service life to over 30 years.
Our standard production specifications cover a comprehensive range, with outer diameters from 219mm to 3620mm and wall thicknesses from 5mm to 25mm. Custom-made specifications for special thick walls are also available. Standard single-piece lengths are 8-12 meters, and custom length processing is supported. Standard beveling can be applied to the pipe ends for easy and rapid on-site installation overseas, effectively reducing on-site welding work and significantly improving construction efficiency.
